2. Processing of Personal Data When Visiting and Using the Website
2.1 Server logs (website access)
When you access this website, the web server processes technically necessary access data. This may include your IP address, date and time of access, requested URL, referrer URL, transferred data volume, HTTP status code, and browser and operating system information. This data is required to deliver the website, ensure technical stability, and detect attacks or misuse.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure and reliable operation of the website).
Retention: Server log files are stored only for as long as necessary for security, error analysis, and abuse detection. The operational target is 14 days; longer retention occurs only where necessary in individual cases to investigate security-relevant incidents or for legal reasons.
2.2 Contact form
If you use the contact form, we process the information you provide: name, email address, company (optional), topic or industry, country (optional), and message content. We also store the time of submission and the IP address. The IP address is processed for security, abuse prevention, rate limiting, and technical traceability.
Contact inquiries are first stored on our server and then forwarded to us by email so that we can process and answer your request. Our email service provider IONOS is used for email delivery.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where your inquiry relates to a contract or pre-contractual measures; otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in processing incoming inquiries and protecting against misuse).
Retention: Contact form submissions are generally stored for up to 12 months and then deleted, unless longer retention is required to process your inquiry, fulfill a contract, or comply with legal obligations. You may request earlier deletion at any time.
Recipients/processors: Emails are sent via IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany. Hosting of the website and contact form processing is provided by Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany. Where required, data processing agreements under Art. 28 GDPR have been concluded with the service providers used.
Providing your data is voluntary. However, we need at least your name, email address, and message content to process an inquiry. Without this information we cannot reasonably respond to your request.
2.3 Language detection
When accessing the default language version, the language configured in your browser may be read in order to offer a matching language version. The selected or detected language is stored in a first-party cookie named i18n_lang. The cookie has a lifetime of 365 days and is used only to recognize your preferred language on later visits.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a user-friendly, language-appropriate presentation of the website). The cookie is technically required for this convenience function and is not used for marketing or tracking purposes.
2.4 Web analytics (Umami, self-hosted, cookieless)
We use Umami as a self-hosted, cookieless web analytics tool. Umami runs at analytics.ionlinx.com on our own server infrastructure in Germany. No marketing cookies are set, no advertising profiles are created, no data is transmitted to advertising networks, and no cross-site tracking across third-party websites takes place.
Data processed: visited pages, referrer URL, time of visit, technical browser and device information, screen size, approximate location information derived from the IP address, and events such as outbound link clicks, mail or telephone link clicks, scroll depth, and successful contact form submissions. Umami creates a short-lived session identifier from the IP address, user agent, and a regularly changing salt. The IP address is not permanently stored in plain text; analyses are based on aggregated usage statistics.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in privacy-friendly reach measurement, technical improvement, and performance evaluation of the website). Since Umami is operated on this website without cookies, without local storage, and without comparable storage of or access to information on your device, we assess that no consent under § 25 TDDDG is required.
Retention: Aggregated usage statistics may be stored for long-term comparisons. Raw data and short-lived session references are processed only as part of Umami functionality. You may object to processing on grounds relating to your particular situation; you can also technically prevent collection through browser settings, tracking protection, or block lists.
3. Cookies
This website uses one first-party cookie named i18n_lang to store the preferred language. It has a lifetime of up to 365 days. Apart from this, our Umami web analytics does not set cookies. We do not use marketing cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party cookies.
4. Hosting
This website, the contact form backend, and the self-hosted Umami analytics are operated on servers of Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany. Processing takes place on servers within the European Union. Where required, a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR has been concluded with Hetzner.
5. Data transfers
Processing of personal data in connection with this website generally takes place within the European Union or the European Economic Area. Our hosting provider Hetzner and our email service provider IONOS process data in Germany. When you click external links, such as LinkedIn or the EU online dispute resolution platform, you leave our website; the respective provider is responsible for processing there.
6. Your rights
Subject to the statutory requirements, you have the following rights:
- Access (Art. 15) – obtain confirmation as to whether we process your data and a copy of that data
- Rectification (Art. 16) – have inaccurate data corrected
- Erasure (Art. 17) – request deletion of your data where applicable
- Restriction of processing (Art. 18) – limit how we use your data in certain cases
- Data portability (Art. 20) – receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Object (Art. 21) – object to processing based on legitimate interests
Where processing is based on consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time. The withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before the withdrawal.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The supervisory authority responsible for us is: Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht (BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany. Website: https://www.lda.bayern.de
7. Automated decision-making and profiling
We do not use automated decision-making (including profiling) within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.
8. Data security
We use TLS/HTTPS for transmission of this website and contact form contents. Access to stored contact form inquiries is restricted. Servers, applications, and configurations are operated using appropriate technical and organizational measures to prevent loss, misuse, and unauthorized access.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy if technical processes, services used, or legal requirements change. The current version is available on this page.
